The answer to this really seems to depend on where you live. In many places, it appears to be politically correct to refer to someone as autistic. However, in other places, people prefer the phrase “person with autism”. The latter seems to acknowledge that the person is a person first, and the disability comes second. What isn’t politically correct is referring to someone as an ASie. Although someone might call himself an Aspie (person with Asperger’s Syndrome), it isn’t correct for others to use the term.
