“Bones” the long running TV show on the Fox network, has a few characters that people think have a form of autism called Asperger’s Syndrome. Bones herself is one of them and the character Zack Addy is another. It seems that he is actually more sociopathic than autistic though. There are reasons to think that he may be autistic, but he does not seem to care at all about others or consequences and this leads away from that diagnosis. He is brilliant and lets everyone else on the team know that he is, and that is not characteristic of autism either.
I’m not really sure he’s autistic. Like you said, he’s more of a sociopath than autistic, but in a way, I think he knows this in the show. It’s hard to say though.
He’s not really that close to a sociopath either though. He’s shown to have guilt, remorse and a very strong conscience, but he just has a weak personality making him susceptible to manipulation.
He’s very far from sociopathic and this is a harmful trait to label someone who may have ASD. Alexithymia is a common trait in Autism, which causes issues labelling and understanding emotions, including empathy and sympathy. I see this in Zack. He doesn’t lack these emotions, he just doesn’t feel them as strongly, or doesn’t know how to deal with them. It could be he feels “something” wrong inside in those situations but doesn’t pay mind to it, instead speaking rationally, which he understands. He is very clearly Autistic and it’s very harmful to consider him Psycho/Socio-pathic for these traits.
I could never tell if he was autistic or had ADHD, because he shows the traits for either. He has shown to be a very loving character. It’s more that he doesn’t know how to deal with his emotions, and he more than likely feels them more intensely than the others do, so because he doesn’t know how to deal with them he keeps them to himself. I have ADHD and that’s what I do. Also his incredible social awkwardness does play a factor into not showing his emotions.
