Lisbeth Salander is a fictional character in Steig Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. There has been much speculation that she may be on the autism spectrum, and her character certainly has many qualities that could point in that direction. She is a loner and an ace computer hacker who lives on the outskirts of society. Other characters in the books refer to her as autistic, but these qualities may also be the result of her abusive childhood and brutal treatment by the social system of her society. Is she autistic? Only Steig Larsson knows for sure.
