Did Kim Peek have autism?
Kim Peek was a savant who inspired the movie Rain Man, about a man with autism. He had a photographic memory and was able to facing pages of a book at one time – one with each eye. However, he suffered from severe social and motor difficulties, and was unable to dress himself or brush his own teeth without help. He was born with macrocephaly, damage to the cerebellum, and agenesis of the corpus callosum. Doctors do not think he suffered from autism, but rather from a condition known as FG syndrome. He died of a heart attack in 2009.
