Historic figures were not diagnosed with autism because the term and the scale had not been invented yet. That does not mean that they did not have what we would think of as autism, it is just more difficult to say whether it is true. Let’s look at the facts. Van Gogh was a brilliant artist, not appreciated in his time, who was eccentric, very depressed, manic and cut his ear off in a fit of angst. This does not lead one to believe he was autistic. Probably more along the lines of bipolar leaning toward the major depressive side of things.
Creative people are often thought to be somewhere on the autism scale because they do not think conventionally. Van Morrison would definitely fit that bill. Although his biggest hit “Brown Eyed Girl” is a relatively traditional pop song, his other efforts are not. He is not autistic though. He has never shunned the spotlight for any length of time and he has never claimed to be. It may seem that every person who creates off beat music or art could be autistic, and some are, not everyone is. Speculation and rumor plague the recording and film industries though, so this is no wonder.
Vixx, unbeknownst to most people in the Western hemisphere, is a Korean boy band comprised of six members. In a contest on Korean TV they were chosen in an “American Idol” style format to see who would be a part of the group. Leo is the primary lead singer and the straight faced leader of the group. It is interesting that there is speculation that he has some form of autism because it does not appear that he does. He has been singing with the group since 2012 and they are responsible for several hits. But, does he have autism: No.
Through the years an actor or actress may play characters that people think have some of the symptoms of autism. Vincent D’onofrio has played a wide array of characters in his career, some of which may lead people to believe he plays the brilliant, shy obsessed character a little too well. Unfortunately, for all of the speculators out there, he has said publicly that he does not suffer from autism. He is not on the scale and he is surprised when people suggest that he is. Oh well, that is a rumor for you. Better to look up the facts than believe what the common notion is.
Uma Thurman is the tall, lanky, wish-she-was lover of George Costanza (on “Seinfeld”). She has played in many different movies playing everything from a damsel in distress to a psychotic killer. She has been good in all of her roles, but she does not seem to fall anywhere on the autism scale. It is interesting who people think may be autistic to some degree and they will always make accusations regarding it. Although being autistic is not something to be ashamed of it would be the same as saying someone has any other type of disability they do not have.
“My husband is undiagnosed but I think he is autistic”, Rebecca Asked.
Sometimes people will go undiagnosed, even if they have had autistic symptoms their entire lives. The reason for this is that autism is a syndrome on a continuum. Unlike the common cold (which you either have or you don’t) autism exists in many forms. If someone has a successful life and is somewhere on the autism scale, they likely have a mild form such as Asperger’s Syndrome. A test can be taken on line or your doctor can set you up with a consult. If you suspect this, talk to your spouse and see if they would be willing to determine the facts.

Does Terry Porter have a disability
Reality shows have become all of the rage and the more moronic they are the better people seem to like them. For some reason there has recently been a large influx of Southern men and women who have gotten their own shows and “Porter Ridge” is one of them. The unofficial king of the “Ridge”, Terry Porter, does not always seem like he knows what he is doing. His pronouncements are suspect and many believe that he is on some way mentally challenged. That has led to the speculation that he is somewhere on the autism scale. Though this may seem to explain his eccentricity, it does not.
Does Temple Grandin have aspergers or autism
Temple Grandin is best known for the movie about her life which aired in 2010. However, she is an animal advocate and a Doctor of Animal Science who is regarded as a behavior expert around the world. She was also diagnosed with autism when she was 2 years old. People at the time thought that she was brain damaged but she overcame all of the adversity to prove herself to the world, and herself, by getting a prestigious position and a doctorate despite her struggles. She is currently on of the primary advocates for autism research and is an avid fund raiser for the cause.
Does Tina Fey’s daughter have autism
Tina Fey has become one of the most noticeable actresses on TV no matter what she is doing. She was the one who played Sarah Palin on “Saturday Night Live” and she has a role as Liz Lemon on the TV show she writes called “30 Rock” (you may have heard of it). In one episode her oldest daughter played her younger self and was the spitting image of her mother, Some believe that the little girl may have autism, but there is no indication that this is correct. She is precocious and cute, but she does not seem to be on the autism scale.
Tim Tebow is one of the greatest college athletes ever to play football. His coach made a system within which his talents shined and he was the beneficiary of two national titles and a Heisman Trophy. Unfortunately that has not translated to a pro career (although he is still trying to land a pro job). It is interesting that Tebow might be considered autistic since he seems to have none of the symptoms that are most often associated with autism. But, people will always wonder about these things. In Tebow’s case, it does not seem that he is in any way autistic nor does he have Asperger’s.
