Is Peter Griffin autistic?

One episode of “Family Guy” actually dealt with this question to some degree. Peter is a buffoonish character who stumbles through life creating chaos. In the episode in question, he was told by a doctor that he was retarded (the term commonly used now to denote this archaic diagnosis is developmentally challenged or delayed). He was given a pass by society because he was considered mentally challenged. A sign was erected in front of his house to warn motorists of his disability. However, autism was never mentioned. The character does display below average intelligence, but he has none of the other characteristics associated with autism.

  1. He does have characteristics of autism – specifically perseveration, the most obvious being Surfin’ Bird, but the more I watch, the more I notice instances of it.

    1. Also how he becomes amazing at piano when he gets super drunk. I’m on the spectrum and I’m gifted with instruments except for piano, I’m horrible at piano until I close my eyes and just turn my brain off then BOOM Fur Elise played perfectly.
