Does the boy in “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” have autism?

The events that took place on 9/11 affected the entire country in many different ways. The movie “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” tells the story of how a boy loses his father when the towers collapse, but regains himself afterward. The boy has some of the traits of autism, especially an aversion to loud noises and crowds, but it is never stated as a fact that he has the disorder. Because he seems to exhibit traits it has been roundly believed that he is supposed to have autism. Although the film’s makers never confirmed or denied it is left to the movie’s public to decide.
